Water Wells, Pumps and Water Lines for Inman Property Owners

The city of Inman covers less than a square mile, but the 29349 ZIP code reaches far past it. Most people with an Inman address live outside the city limits. Out past the water district's mains, a house depends on its own well. A new house there needs a well before move-in, and a drought year can leave an old well dry.

Core Well Drilling is based in Pacolet, just outside Spartanburg, and we are licensed and bonded. Our drillers bring more than 40 years of drilling experience. For well drilling in Inman, new wells and replacement wells come first. We also install the well pump, the pressure tank and the water line to the house. Call (864) 768-5688 and we will get back to you.

Inman-Campobello water and the land past the mains

The Inman-Campobello Water District was created in 1954 to serve Inman, Campobello and the surrounding areas. It has grown since then and now serves many more customers. The district says its service area is still expanding.

The 29349 ZIP code is home to about 36,458 people, while the city counted 2,990 in the 2020 Census. Inman Mills, just southwest of town, counted 1,233, and the town of Campobello 675. We drill across that area, out toward Fingerville and Lake Bowen. West of town, Gowensville sits just over the Greenville County line, and we work there too.

Before you buy land around Inman, ask the district whether its service reaches the lot. If it does not, the house will need a well, and our site survey helps pick its spot. Where both are possible, our guide to well water vs city water compares them.

How deep are wells around Inman?

Inman is in the Piedmont, where bedrock lies under a layer of weathered rock called saprolite. That layer is earthy, broken-down rock, and in places it runs 150 feet thick. The water in a rock well comes from fractures in the bedrock below it. The USGS notes that a well hitting no fractures yields little or no water.

One of the wells we have posted was in Inman. It was a hard-rock well, and the drill was just past 520 feet down before good water showed. Sometimes an Upstate well finds water near 200 feet. The rock under the next Inman lot sets its own depth.

The state requires us to set casing down to bedrock, and nobody can see where the rock starts before drilling. That is why our written estimate for drilling a new well quotes a minimum depth, with the casing cost explained. The site survey comes first, before anything is scheduled.

Dry wells and the 2026 drought in Spartanburg County

SCDES, the state environmental agency, has warned this year of moderate to severe drought in South Carolina. On August 6, 2026, the state's Drought Response Committee eased Spartanburg County from severe to moderate drought. Rain over the month before had refilled the Spartanburg area's water supply reservoirs.

In the 1930s, Inman was called the fresh peach capital of the world. An older farmhouse around Inman may still run on a shallow bored or dug well. Those wells go dry when the water table drops below the bottom of the well. Our bored well vs drilled well guide explains how the two differ.

When a well goes dry, SCDES tells homeowners to call a well driller. The agency also notes that most of South Carolina has plentiful groundwater deeper down. One option it lists is a new, deeper well on the property. We are state-certified well drillers, and we drill replacement wells when an old well quits.

First rule out the pump, since a failed part can leave the taps dry while the well still holds water. Our no-water checklist walks through the checks in order. If the pump kicks on and off every few seconds, the problem may be a waterlogged pressure tank. A worn-out pump calls for well pump repair.

New homes around Inman and the drive from Pacolet

Inman has been growing. Between the 2010 and 2020 censuses, the city grew by more than a quarter, from 2,321 people to 2,990. More people keep moving into the Upstate, and each new house on land with no water main needs a well. We drill those wells for homeowners and for builders putting up new houses.

Inman lies just north of Spartanburg, and the rig comes over from our shop in Pacolet on US-176. That highway runs along the southwestern edge of town, and downtown sits on SC-292 just north of it. SC-292 also links Inman to I-26 to the east. Inman is about 21 miles from the shop in a straight line, well inside the area we work around Spartanburg.

Communities and areas we serve around Inman: Inman Mills, Campobello, Gowensville, Fingerville, Lake Bowen, Chapman High School, SC-292, US-176, I-26.

Inman FAQ

Questions From Inman Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Inman. If yours is not here, call and ask.

Call (864) 768-5688

Do you drill wells around Inman Mills and Campobello?
Yes. Both sit inside the area we work around Inman, along with the land toward Fingerville and Lake Bowen. We are based in Pacolet and work the Upstate about 60 miles around Spartanburg. Call (864) 768-5688 and we will get back to you.
Who permits a new well in Spartanburg County?
The state does. Every new home well in South Carolina needs a permit from SCDES, the state environmental agency. The state's fee is $70 for each home well. The steps are in our guide to the South Carolina well permit.
What drives the cost of a new well around Inman?
Depth is the biggest piece, and the rock under your lot decides it. Casing has to reach bedrock, so the casing footage can move the number too. The pump system and the length of the water line to the house add their own costs. We look at the site first, then write up a free estimate that quotes a minimum depth.
How long does it take to drill a well near Inman?
Many wells are drilled in a day or two, and the site survey sets the schedule. On site, a 2,000-gallon water tank truck and a pipe trailer work alongside the drill rig. Once the well is done, the pump system goes in and the water line runs to the house.
Can you drill a well for a farm or a pond around Inman?
Yes. We size irrigation and farm wells in gallons per minute, for livestock or an irrigation system. For one pond, a farm well we posted put out more than 20 gallons per minute. Yield comes from the fractures a well finds, so it changes from lot to lot.
