About two in three people in Greenwood County live outside the Greenwood city limits. Out on the rural edges of the county, past the water mains, private wells are the norm. When one of those wells fails, the house has no water until it is fixed or replaced. A new house on Greenwood County land with no water line needs its well before move-in day.
Core Well Drilling is based in Pacolet, just outside Spartanburg, and we are licensed and bonded. Our drillers bring more than 40 years of drilling experience, and well drilling is our main job here. That covers new and replacement wells, well pump installation, pressure tanks and the water line to the house. Call (864) 768-5688 and we will get back to you.

Greenwood CPW, short for Commissioners of Public Works, is the water utility for the city. Its system serves about 180 square miles of the county through more than 640 miles of mains. CPW also supplies the towns of Ninety Six and Ware Shoals through two master meters.
The city itself covers about 16 square miles, a little northwest of the county's center. Greenwood County holds about 456 square miles of land. In the 2020 Census, the city counted 22,545 people and the whole county 69,351.
CPW's website carries a water service area map, and it is worth checking before you buy rural land. CPW is still extending lines, too, and its site lists a Harris Landing water line extension.
Lake Greenwood sits behind Buzzard's Roost Dam, the area's largest New Deal project, built on the Saluda River. Its nearest shore is about 8 miles northeast of the city. The lake covers about 11,400 acres with 212 miles of shoreline, and CPW draws its water from it. Lake Greenwood State Park, in Greenwood County, sits on the south shore.
A house near all that water can still lose its well. One job we posted was a replacement well near Lake Greenwood, for a family whose well had gone dry.
CPW repairs its own mains, service lines and meters, and a private well is yours to keep up. Before anyone drills, rule out the pump: a tripped breaker or a worn pump can look like a dry well. Our guide to no water from the well walks through those checks, and well pump repair covers the fix.
When the old well has failed for good, a replacement well goes in. We help pick its spot on the site survey and confirm the county and state setbacks there.
Greenwood County is one of 22 South Carolina counties in the Piedmont. Wells here are drilled into hard rock, and the state requires casing set down to bedrock. Nobody can see how deep that rock sits before the rig starts.
Depth can change from one Greenwood County lot to the next. Sometimes the rig finds water around 200 feet. On one hard-rock job in Inman, we drilled a little over 520 feet to reach good water. So our written estimate quotes a minimum depth and explains how the casing cost can vary.
Greenwood County's three school districts split it into three parts: Greenwood 50, Ware Shoals 51 and Ninety Six 52. We have posted work from Ware Shoals, a town of 1,701 people in the 2020 Census. We also drill around Ninety Six, Hodges, Coronaca and Cokesbury.
Places outside the county seat stay small. In the 2020 Census, Ninety Six counted 2,076 people and Hodges 162. Coronaca and Cokesbury are census-designated places in the county.
The rig comes over from Pacolet, and US 221 carries it southwest through Laurens into Greenwood. On the way, it crosses the Saluda River and passes Coronaca before it reaches the city. Greenwood sits about 55 straight-line miles from our shop, inside the 60 or so miles we work around Spartanburg.
Communities and areas we serve around Greenwood: Ninety Six, Ware Shoals, Hodges, Coronaca, Cokesbury, Lake Greenwood, Lake Greenwood State Park, Lander University.

No water at the house, pressure that keeps dropping, or a pump that never shuts off. We check the system in order and repair or replace the part that failed.

Core Well Drilling installs the complete pump system on new and existing wells. That covers the submersible pump, the pitless adapter, the pressure tank and switch, and the hookup at the house.

A well pressure tank holds water under pressure so the pump does not run every time a faucet opens. We install and replace pressure tanks across the Upstate, sized to the pump on your well.

We trench and lay the water line from the wellhead to the house or the barn. Old lines that leak or sit too shallow get replaced the same way.
